The Lafayette Police Department provides traffic accident reports through Crashdocs. For police reports, certified copies, photos, or video, submit the city’s Criminal Justice Records Request form online or at the police department. A police report costs $7.00 for the first 10 pages and $0.25 for each page after. Do not pay until the police department contacts you.

Through Crashdocs, which the City of Lafayette’s records page lists for traffic accident reports. When you search, make sure the agency is the Lafayette, Colorado Police Department.

  1. Submit the form. Use the Criminal Justice Records Request form online, or complete it at the police department. Include as much as you can about the incident, especially the case number.
  2. Verify your identity. Lafayette Police contacts you through encrypted email to obtain a copy of your government-issued driver’s license or ID card.
  3. Pay when asked. The department discusses payment options before releasing records. Payment is accepted by mail, by phone at 303-665-5571 extension 2, or through the city’s online payment site.

Requests are processed in the order received. The Records Division is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed weekends and holidays.

Some records are not releasable to the public. The City of Lafayette also lists failing to affirm that the records will not be used for the direct solicitation of business for pecuniary gain as a reason for denial. If you are requesting your own report for your own claim, signing that statement is routine.

Lafayette includes photos with an emailed police report at no extra charge. Those photos are worth bringing along, since they show the scene in a way the written report can’t.

During a free 30-minute consultation, attorney Greg Francis of Francis Law will check the report against those photos and any video, then explain what it all means for your case. If you’re still waiting on the police department to process your request, you can schedule anyway.
